So, you’re looking to find yourself a job in the Edmonton technology industry. Maybe you’re a recent graduate of one of the many programs available at post-secondary institutions around the city or online, or maybe you’re looking for a change of pace in your career and want to see what other jobs are out there before you decide what exactly you want to jump into. Either way, Edmonton is a fertile field of opportunity waiting for you — no matter where your interests may lie.
To get you started on your search for that perfect job, here’s a list of four of the hottest jobs in Edmonton’s technology and innovation Sector.
1: BioWare: Lead Graphics Programmer
BioWare is one of Edmonton’s original tech giants. Originally founded in 1995 by a couple of Med School graduates, the name BioWare has become synonymous with high-quality role-playing video games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur’s Gate. At the moment, BioWare Edmonton is looking for a Lead Graphics Programmer. If you’re someone who has Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science and a few years experience with developing rendering systems under their belt, this job is for you.
2: IronSight: Software Developer
This one’s for people with an interest in the code-writing process. IronSight is a web and mobile-based service for dispatching and tracking that is geared towards energy producers and their service companies. Right now, it is being used by a number of the world’s largest oil companies. They’re looking for someone to help develop new features for their software including job analytics, electronic billing, and automated scheduling. IronSight is looking for someone with a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering and who has well-rounded knowledge in various programming languages. Three years of related experience is required but they offer flexible working hours.
3: Scope AR: QA (Quality Assurance) Analyst
As the name suggests, Scope AR is working in a field of tech called AR — or Augmented Reality. It’s a similar vein to Virtual Reality, except that it’s all about overlaying digital technology on top of the real world through things like the Google HoloLens. One of their biggest goals is to find practical applications for their technology and they have done so exceedingly well, with a list of clients that includes Lockheed Martin, the global security and aerospace company. Scope AR is currently looking for someone to help test their products for bugs and issues. The ideal person has a solid understanding of software testing and three years of experience in the field.
4: Jobber: Product Marketing Manager
Not all of Edmonton’s Innovation jobs revolve around programming and an understanding of computer science. Our city’s tech industry has created numerous jobs in other fields that help support the code-writers. For those with marketing experience, Jobber is looking for a Product Marketing Manager. The ideal candidate is customer-focused with a degree or diploma in business, marketing, or a related field, and who has previous experience with product marketing and research.
If you’re currently in the market for a job, or even if you’re just checking out your options and seeing if the Edmonton’s technology industry is right for you, these are just some of the jobs available to Edmontonians at the moment.
